June 25th, MJ’s Sudden Death

I kinda have to say a few words about one of my fave’s tragic death…

So yeah just chillin at home, and having a quick look at the news, I found out that Michael Jackson suffered a cardiac arrest and had been brought to UCLA’s hospital. When the blog TMZ declared his death, I just wished it was another crazy gossip about the fantasized character of MJ. Turning on the TV, NBC confirmed 10 mins later what no body could have imagined… The King of the Pop is dead at 50.

I felt sincerely sad, it was weird how “affected” I was, knowing that I wasn’t his biggest fan, although I definitely recognized his genius, just like so many before me.

London concerts, pedophile accusations, amazing career and disturbed childhood… pretty much everything about him was said on this same night, so many special programs, between MJ and Farrah Fawcett. Sad, sad night.

After that, everyone, from their car to the park and the gay pride, EVERYBODY played MJ’s songs to remember her/his very own MJ’s moment. For me it was “Black or White”, I couldn’t remember why. My bro helped me: it was one of the first song we heard on our very first “dancefloor” during our winter family vacation. And I think it’s also a song people danced on during my first dance shows, when I was 6 or 7. God I wish I would have gone to one of his concert… when? In primary school??? That’s it: I felt like Michael would be there for a while, old, shaky, remembering the Moon Walk he wouldn’t be able to perform anymore.

Well, what can we say? Rest in Peace MJ, and we miss you.

Evenings out in Millenium and Grant Park

Hey,

Well well well, gotta catch up again:a lot of work lately, and few entertainement… BUT a couple of nice evenings out.

After seeing a nice concert by a Mexican group in Millenium Park, we had great Wednesday deals thanks to friends and Metromix in a place called Zapatista, a tapas bar (again!!) 1307 S. Wabash Ave. A very nice place, very romantic for whoever wants to hang out with their sgnificant other. BUT we missed the weekly fireworks (usually at 9.30pm, sharp) on Millenium Park.

On Friday, we ended up having a picnic right next to the Baked Bean, nibbling on carrots and pretzels while having girls’ talk. Then we headed to Grant Park, going through a huge crowd coming out of the Taste of Chicago, to enjoy the Summer Dance Festival. Salsa was the dance of the night, before taking a long walk up North to the Crimson Lounge. We felt sooo underdressed for this place but I have to say, it’s pretty nice and fancy…

Watch out: the gay pride parade pics are coming soon.

See ya!

Melting pot of news

Hey!

Nearly up-to-date with you guys… I still need to tell you about this week and the weird weather we had: rainy, humid, hot, hailing, … what can I say? This is what it looked like on Friday, when we had all four seasons in a day:

heart breaking weather

SO we had plenty of indoor activites. Working of course, in the beautiful Chicago Public Library, the biggest library in the world, they say, but also reading (as it feels like we have a whole library at home). Among others, I’m catching up with the local (and global) rock star’s bestseller: The Audacity of Hope.

AoH

And we had a fritalian (cf Dunkin Donuts’ commercial) night: cheese, bread ‘n wine that we got in Treasure Island, “the most European supermarket”.

We also had a crazy night, in the storm, running up North to find this amazing old school cinema (you can get in free if you’re on the list!!) to watch this award-winning French movie: Séraphine. The actress was great and some shots really were wothwhile, although we were soaked and had to borrow a whole roll of toilet paper to kinda dry off ourselves.

Then we went to this very nice tapas bar, called BULL-eh-DIA’s (3651 N. Southport Ave, 60613 – www.bull-eh-dias.com), where we had many classic yet delicious tapas, drinking sangria. I recommend the gaspacho, which we asked warmed up as we were still kinda cold… it really was amazing. The waiters were the nicest and the owner talked to us for a little bit before inviting us at an “Ibiza” party in July… we appreciated it, that was pretty thoughtful of him. AND I got to dry off my hair and my jacket thanks to the handdryer!!

After that we ended up at the Lumen, pretty nice club although the mixes were sort of… unexpected. Just like the underaged girls dancing on the pool… Well, we still had a great night out!

Hey!

As I’m still catching up, here are some pics of a boat ride we had… We really haven’t been lucky with the weather recently, so short moments of sunshine are being appreciated and we make the most of it: jumping in a boat for example. I felt kinda frog seasick so I stayed in the hold while they enjoyed the ride…

Cruising over Michigan Avenue

Dear Readers,

I know it’s been a while since I last told you about my adventures, but what can I say? The rain made it difficult lately… As the weather got better, we cruised over Michigan Avenue and contemplated the view from the Hancock Tower. Weirdly enough, the best view you have is from the ladies’ room… how inspiring!

in ladies' room

Then going down to South Michigan Avenue (although climbing up, go figure…), shopping and enjoying sales. We reached the NBC building, where Jerry Springer and Oprah Winfrey are working… well I guess!

NBC

Then we hit the Chicago Blues Festival and my camera died before I could take any more pics, so here is the program on the Red Eye, I’m sorry but that’s all you’ll get from me…

For more pics, check out the Chicago Tribune article, or the Chicago Blues Fest website: www.chicagobluesfestival.org .

Enjoying great music in Grant Park. Althought we didn’t stay for long, you could tell that it was one of these great community events where people enjoy themselves while sharing the pleasure of a Chicagoan musical tradition… I’m lovin’ it!

Check back MIC soon, I’ll catch up with you on everything that’s been going on.

Peace out!

Gipsy Kings on Saturday night at Ravinia: the nicest place to be when summer comes… Although it was kinda chilly, we camped and enjoyed a cheese + wine picnic there, while waiting for the Gipsies.
